Canfurence 2026

Canfurence 2026

Canfurence was a wonderful time, as per usual.

It's one of the smaller conventions for the furry fandom in Canada and it tends to have a chill vibe compared to more hectic events. Currently they are seeing in the hundreds of attendees, which feels a bit more full than they did at the old venue.

This year it happened at the Marriott near the end of the LRT line, right across from the Ottawa baseball stadium.

Parking proved ample and we had no problem with that. They had a bunch of space both inside and out, and offloading our gear for supporting the event proved fairly easy.

I got to see so many cute fursuits and I have a small collection here on Google Photos.

I also opted to aid the person running the VR portal, Ember Eptev!

We had 2 screens going. One was in the dance floor showing the event VRChat instance to the dance floor, and one was a TV in the hallway outside of the dances to allow face to face communication.

It proved fairly popular, and there was only one minor hiccup where a patron did not read the rules and as a consequence, had their avatar blocked. They went to their friend who is in our group who runs the portals to report the incident.

Sound was pretty bad for the VR portal in the hallway as the dance floor volume was too high to allow much communication right outside the door.

They had moved the TV in the hall down the hall a bit for the 2nd day, which proved a bit better.

I need to get a better projector for these events. Something with greater than 3000 lumens, like the one I was able to borrow from Nevi.

The room parties were sublime!

I went to one themed around Hot Wheels where we bet on races between the cars through the loop-the-loop, multi-loop battery powered track, and the Mario Kart race track!

My friends were decked out in racer outfits and they had decorations all over the room. It was a rad time for a bunch of nerds like us. There was some Baja Blast with tequila in it on offer, and it did not disappoint.

Walking through the halls in fursuit was fun. I only have a partial suit without the body suit so I don't get asked for photos very often, but I asked to take photos with some other suiters with amazing suits!

My suit also suffered long-standing damage to the eyes which came to a head over the weekend, so I bought some new eye blanks and eye sockets and did a little fursuit surgery, and Lili-bunn looks better than ever! I even added eyelids made out of the card stock insert from the eye blanks. I'll replace them soon with some magnetic ones, as that will be a fun and easy project and a vast improvement.

I'm thinking of using sparkly EVA foam to make the upper eyelids! That'll look like I have mascara on which will definitely improve her look.

All in all I think I will definitely attend again, and potentially volunteer as well!
