DVD has been compromised but studios will continue putting out discs that are almost guaranteed to support your player for years to come.
If you buy an HDDVD or Blu-Ray player and it’s decryption key becomes compromised then the MPAA and Macrovision could simply determine that the manufacturer you bought from is either unfit to provide such devices or it’s old devices can no longer play new movies. In this case, if you own such an old device you’re just screwed. All new movies won’t work. Have fun with your new doorstop!
Well, that’s just my $0.02 (that’s two cents Verizon!).
